One thing to NOTE:  How rankings are achieved specifically is ldynamic.  The ultimate goal of search engines is to provide useful information to the searchers so that they can monetize that information through advertising, pay-per-click or pay-per-view.  Make no doubt about it.  All one need do is look to the top listings (marked Ads), bottom page listing (more ads) and right column (even more ads).  Each placement means that some one or business is paying to be seen.   I have no doubt that soon you will see in-page ads along the lines of what Facebook is doing to monetize their social media pages.

Beneath all the “free” apps, software, resources are businesses struggling to capture a larger piece of a multi-billion dollar business.

The more your efforts to be found have quality information, engage your audience and get your audience to explore within your website, the better your results.  These can be enhanced through techniques that are increasingly more sophisticated and ever-evolving.

An example:  Images on your website can have captions and meta-descriptions to tell search engines what is in the image.  Text in images  is essentially lost to search engine bots (crawlers).  Do you have your phone number in text on your front page?   Is it a tap to call link?  Is  your address in a graphic but not in text?

Here are basic items that are missed regularly.  While graphics are inviting and engaging, is the information about you also in a format that can be read by bots crawling the web?
